Clinical History

This 13 year old girl, an epileptic for 4 years, was admitted in status epilepticus. A spastic paralysis of the left side had been present since birth. Instruments had been used at delivery. Examination revealed a pale febrile girl who fitted every few minutes. The left arm and leg were wasted and spastic. No record has been made of any examination of the central nervous system. The patient died the day following admission.

The specimen is of cerebellum sliced horizontally. The most obvious feature is the marked wasting of the right side. This is simply an example of cerebellar atrophy. The right cerebral hemisphere was also atrophic.
