CHONDROSARCOMA OF FEMUR

CHONDROSARCOMA OF FEMUR

Clinical History

The patient was an 18 year old boy who had a mid-thigh amputation for chondrosarcoma of left femur diagnosed by a previous biopsy.

Pathology

The specimen demonstrates the lower end of the left femur. The lower end of the shaft of the femur is expanded by a pale grey tumour which is defined on one side by the periosteum but on the opposite side the tumour appears to infiltrate into the medullary cavity. There are patches of necrosis and haemorrhage in the tumour.
