Clinical History

This lesion, thought clinically to be a sebaceous cyst, was removed from the shoulder of a man of 72.

The specimen is a portion of skin bearing an oval projecting tumour 2 cm in diameter, sliced to display the cut surface. The tumour has a superficial brownish area of ulceration and keratinization and although not encapsulated is well circumscribed. This is an example of a keratoacanthoma (molluscum sebaceum).
