No clinical details are available regarding this patient. The specimen was removed from lung at operation.
The specimen is a bisected ovoid mass of tissue 2.5 cm in diameter, mounted to display the cut and external surfaces. The tumour is grey-white in colour with a roughened nodular external surface. The cut surface has a lobulated appearance with hyaline areas and a central area of calcification 12 x 8 mm in diameter. This is an adenochondroma of the lung.
Adenochrondroma of lung is usually an incidental finding on chest X-ray. It is best regarded as a haematoma.
