ADENOCARCINOMA THYROID

ADENOCARCINOMA THYROID

Clinical History

A 17 year old girl had a sub-total thyroidectomy for what was thought to be a non-toxic goitre of 3 year's duration.

Pathology

The thyroid gland has been sliced to display both lobes and isthmus. One lobe presents a rounded tumour mass 4 cm. in diameter with a grey dense homogeneous cut surface. The isthmus shows a semi-cystic nodule with a yellow periphery. The other lobe contains many small colloid nodules. Histologically the tumour was a well differentiated papillary adenocarcinoma.
