CAPSULAR FIBROSIS OF SPLEEN
Incidental finding at post-mortem.
The spleen is sliced along the long axis to show considerable thickening of the capsule by pale fibrous material. The external surface is irregular. This is an example of "icing-sugar" spleen; the aetiology is obscure but the fibrosis may have supervened either on perisplenic fibrin deposition or subcapsular haematoma formation.
This condition is also known as "perisplenitis". It is a very common incidental finding.
